Charlie Kirk ( https://www.tpusa.com/bio/charliekirk ) asks this question of young voters on college campuses. He is challenging the next generation to think for themselves.
I remember feeling many years ago that the things I was being taught in high school and college were not beneficial to my life. I didn't even agree with theoretical ideas that were presented as fact. When I left school, the only skill I had was making my own clothes. I learned that with a tutor not in a regular class. I couldn't balance my checkbook, cook, or even know how to prepare for a job interview. I had few life skills. My parents paid a lot of money for my education, but what could I do with it? Is there a way to get what we need and skip the rest and still have a successful career or make a good living?
The Amish only go to up to the eighth grade yet they are skilled carpenters, canners, clothes makers. They have a great work ethic. If you purchase an Amish made piece of furniture it will be an heirloom you can pass on to future generations. There is a downside to being Amish, the rules. That is another whole blog I will do later.
Back to my questions: I believe in today's society homeschooling may be an answer. Many parents seem to agree, as the number of families choosing this option is growing each year. I grew up with some homeschooled kids. Their parents were missionaires who did not have an English opportunity near their home. They were social and advanced. With homeschooling, topics can be selected and studied year round. Sorry kids. No sick days unless you are really ill! But it can be more fun. Think about field trip vacations to learn more about the world around you. Cooking 101. We had that at our house as my husband is a chef. The topics are not limited to what a school needs to get certain funding or pass some standard set by the government. You will not be held back by wasted time traveling to a school or other factors like lunch period lost time. You can eat while you study, if you like. If mom or dad is not skilled in your favorite subject you may partner with other homeschool parents who are. Or learn online. And you will get your education faster with less expense. You can purchase only the curriculum and supplies you need to get the job done. You can even study in PJ's if you want. And a surprise benefit: no homework after hours.
Were you homeschooled or do you have a big student loan it will take years to repay? I would like some feedback on what you liked or did not like about your education.
